Everyone has a right to have coat of arms!

This is very important to emphasize to new armigers (person entitled to use a coat of arms). The only difference between the arms of nobles and civic coat of arms is in charges (elements) that can be placed on the coat of arms. For instance, gentleman can not use crowns or supporters in his coat of arms, etc.

There are many heraldic rules to be followed when someone wants to create a coat of arms. Basic rules are:

1. Coat of arms must be unique. It is not allowed usage of identical coat of arms for the different armigers, even if they are related by blood. Father’s coat of arms must be different than of his son and heir. For that purpose heraldry uses cadency marks or differences in order to indicate, by its addition to a coat of arms, the birth order of a male heir.

2. It is not allowed to exist two or more coat of arms of the same armiger in the same time. This does not apply for different versions (designs) of the coat of arms (see rule number 3).

3. Artistic interpretation of coat of arms (design) is irrelevant when heraldic rules are respected. In devising of coat of arms only important is blazon (see rule number 7).

4. Heraldic right (dexter) is left side to the viewer and vice versa (heraldic left is called sinister).

5.  Composition of heraldic tinctures. There are four basic heraldic colors: red (gules), blue (azure), black (sable) and green (vert); two metals: gold (or) and silver (argent); three additional colors: purple (purpure), orange (tenne) and dark red (sanguine). Two metals can not come in contact, for example gold can not be placed on silver, but must be contrasted with a color. Same rules exist for colors, basic and additional. Colors and metals can be placed one on other.

6. Marshalling coats of arms is the act of disposing the arms of several persons in one escutcheon (shield), so that their relation to each other may be clearly marked, for example coat of arms of husband and wife. The arms of the husband are always placed on the dexter (right) side of the escutcheon and the wife on the sinister side (left). It is called impalement.

7. Blazon is a formal description of a coat of arms from which the reader can reconstruct the appropriate image.

The coat of arms is kind of trademark which represents armiger not only during his lifetime,  armiger’s heirs will inherit it afterwards. One can use coat of arms as personal or business logo, in letterhead, in e-mail header, in presentations, in web sites, in a bookplate etc.

Devising coat of arms is very responsible and complex task and therefore must be completed by professionals and experts. There are many individuals and companies offering high quality and original craftsmanship work, but all is about copying the coat of arms from people with identical or similar surname, or using of templates.

My approach is different, I talk with potential armiger, analysing his needs and providing solution based on family history, religion, some important events etc. Someone is to be proud and not to be ashamed of his coat of arms. Careful analysis and craftsmanship together with creativity represent the key of my success.
